Started in the French suburb of Grenoble in 1952, Moncler is a brand that creates the highest quality of down wear. It was also chosen as the official wear of the French National Team for the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. This down wear, made using only the finest quality goose feathers, excels at retaining a great deal of heat while also being extremely light. Also, the surface of the garment is coated in a layer of Teflon, which helps keep it from getting dirty. Of course, the polished design and vivid color usage are part of the secrets of its popularity. This brand has been rising in popularity even in Japan over the last several
years, but until now the only places in Paris it could be purchased at were the Galeries Lafayette and Mitsukoshi department stores. However, in 2007 they finally opened a store on the street diagonally across from the main Hermes location. Most importantly, you can buy them for even less than in Japan (though, even here, the price for one piece of down clothing runs at 400-3000 Euros…). By the way, in French a down jacket is called a “doudoune”. It just sounds kind of cute, doesn’t it?
